Simon joins NCO in early 2022 as the General Manger.

Simon holds an Honours Degree in Law from UniSA, an MBA from the University of Adelaide, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Directors (GAICD).

He is a true generalist with strengths in business, law, and science, with a passion for innovative business approaches and developing new markets. He has founded and led a number of companies in diverse fields such as organisational psychology, bushfire detection technology, software development, and data centre management.

He has broad local and international experience which has been gained predominantly in technology related industries in China, Europe and California.

Simon has a passion for green businesses and mentally healthy workplaces, healthy living, and spending time outdoors (camping, sailing, rock climbing and mountain biking).

Carolin Möller

Since 2016, Carolin has brought extensive knowledge to NCO, with an emphasis on grower group certification and is your go-to for any grower group-related questions. In addition, she has facilitated grower group training in the Pacific – hosting sessions in Tonga and Papua New Guinea.

Currently, Carolin is one of the three guest conveners for INOFO OCEANIA (IFOAM group – Inter-continental Organic Farmer Organisation), representing Papua New Guinea and Australia.

Before NCO, for more than 15 years, Carolin has worked on capacity building in natural resource management across Western Africa, Israel, India and the Philippines. Among others, Carolin was working in organic farmer-based research at FiBL Research Institute for Organic Agriculture, the University of Hohenheim, and the International Water Management Institute Ghana.

Over the years, she published several publications for grower group certification and organic research. Carolin holds an Engineering Master for Water Management and a Master of Environmental and Resource Management.

Outside of NCO, Carolin is the Implementation partner for Group Integrity Oceania Pacifika – a database system for grower group management.

Lauren Park

Together with Colette, Lauren provides friendly service to new and existing customers as the first point of contact in the NCO office. She works two days a week and assists in providing administrative, financial and sales support to the team.

Lauren has a background in admin, reception and sales. Working at Sherbert Birdie photography in Sydney where she lived for two years, she gained experience in the world of photography and making people feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Now back in Adelaide, she runs her own photography business, specialising in wedding photography.

Outside of work, she loves animals and spending time with family, listening to her favourite band Toto.



Nicola (Nick) Magarelli

Nicola has a strong background in the fields of Food Processing Technology, analytical chemistry, agricultural, mining and certification production.

He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Science from University of Falcon and a Bachelor in Chemistry  from the Alonso Gamero Technological University.

From 1994 he worked as an Associate University Professor in his native homeland of Venezuela, where his passion for helping farmers was instrumental in setting up projects to assist farmers achieve the steps required for organic certification. He also  conducted several researches related to Aloe Vera, Agave Cocuy, organic essential oils, soil remediation and subtropical pharmaceutical applications

With a commitment to professional excellence, his efforts have been recognized with more than 5 special prizes and awards, including best University Researcher, University Professor and as better support for special forces to combat smuggling and protection of minors.

Certified IRCA Auditor & co-owned an organic store dedicated to providing good, clean organic food to customers. Leaving Venezuela, he has held key positions as Production Engineer and Technical Consultant in the Middle East before settling with his family in Australia.

Paul Fowler

Leading food technologist, Paul is one of NCO’s most experienced certification staff members with extensive experience across a range of commodities and an excellent understanding of the organic standards in addition to USDA NOP, JAS technical criteria.

He joined NCO in 2013 following technical roles in organisations spanning flour milling, fruit and vegetable processing, meat processing, beverages (juice, water, soft drinks and beer), snack foods and bakery and dairy processing.

From 1993 to 2001, he worked for Dairy Farmers in South Australia in a number of roles gaining firsthand experience of the industry and the stringent technical aspects of modern milk processing including organic products.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Food Science and Technology from the University of Adelaide and a Certificate III in Food Processing (General Foods). He also is trained in HACCP Principles and Applications, JAS and NOP Standards.

He has a particular interest in organic dairy, wine, meat processing, horticultural and aquaculture certification.

Wambui Gikenye

Nairobi born and bred, Wambui Gikenye is an experienced compliance and quality assurance professional with strong administration skills.

She has a broad background in agriculture horticulture including a Kenyan-based global floriculture supply chain in quality, compliance and social justice issues, as well as a Fairtrade FLO-Cert Auditor for Oceania.

Wambui holds a Bachelor of Science (Horticulture) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Master of Sustainability and a Master of Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Adelaide.

Kalinya Pulsford

Kalinya holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Adelaide, majoring in genetics and botany. She has a background in genetics research in broadacre cropping species and retail operational compliance and safety.

She has worked as a research assistant for the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics and at the University of Adelaide School of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences, working with broadacre cropping species, with an Honours thesis focusing on non-coding RNAs. She has also worked in supermarket operations focusing on safety and compliance audits.

With a strong interest in horticulture, sustainable agriculture, soil science and urban agriculture, Kalinya was naturally drawn to her current role at NCO.

Haruyo Sakai

Haruyo is NCO’s specialist in the Japanese Agricultural Standard and supports operators to gain access to the valuable Japanese market where demand for organic produce continues to grow exponentially.  She also helps to guide operators through the certification application process.

Since 2009, Haruyo has liaised closely with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) to ensure that NCO complies with the JAS accredited Certifying Body, including any changes in JAS Standards and regulations. She fulfils the role of Organic Produce Certificate and explains requirements to be met by NCO operators wanting to export produce and products to Japan. She also provides support for inspection preparation and report processing.

Haruyo holds a Master of Arts (Economics) from the University of British Columbia, Canada and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics), Kanazawa University, Japan.

She also works as a NAATI qualified interpreter.

Alka Dcruz

As our Inspections Coordinator, Alka manages the inspections for over 1300 operators, including initial and annual site visits – playing a vital role in the certification process.

With a background in banking, working in India, the Middle East, and Hong Kong, Alka was yearning to work in the sustainability sector after studying a permaculture design course with NCO Certified operator, The Food Forest, in 2019.

Alka is new to South Australia, moving in March 2021 and currently resides in the Adelaide Hills.

David Traeger

As our newest certification officer, David brings with him experience interacting within the Horticultural & Agricultural Industries, in both scientific research and commercial production roles. He has diverse practical and technical knowledge gained over a long working career.

Nyssa Park

Nyssa started at NCO as an Exports Coordinator, processing export certificates and reporting. She has now moved to the Certification team as a Support Officer.

Holding a Bachelor of Environmental Science in Biodiversity and Conservation from Flinders University, Nyssa is passionate about the environmental sector, particularly soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare.

She has previously worked for the South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) as part of the Licensing, and then the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) team. In both these roles Nyssa assisted different stakeholders (such as wineries, farming operations and the waste industry) with environmental reporting. Nyssa also has experience working as a Stock Officer at Viterra, helping to maintain the integrity of data for grain storage and transport.

Oliver Williams

Oliver plays an integral part in the NCO team coordinating Export Certificates to assure organic certification of products to importing countries.

He holds a Bachelor of International Relations from the University of Adelaide and has spent the last two years teaching English in China and Taiwan.

He is currently learning Mandarin and has been teaching himself since returning from overseas.

He loves people.

Cosmo Xu

Cosmo works for NCO as a Certification Officer. He has a food processing background in both Australia and China.

Cosmo holds a master’s degree of Applied Science ( Agricultural Science) from University of Tasmania and a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Engineering from Dalian Ocean University in China and Far East State Technical Fishery University in Russia. Cosmo has practical experience within QA department of wine making, bottling , canning food and meat processing industry in both China and Australia. He has in-depth knowledge about the food and beverage manufacturing process.

Colette Miels

Colette is the first point of contact when you’re new to certification! Colette works three days a week, managing the NASAA Certified Organic reception – providing administrative, financial and sales support to the team.

Growing up in the state’s mid-north, Colette has an appreciation for farming and country living. She has a strong background in sales and administrative roles, working for Thermo Fisher Scientific for the past thirteen years.

Since becoming a mum, her interest in the organic sector has become stronger. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family.
